ADAC
career program
The Hillsboro Aero Academy works with the ADAC Luftrettung gGmbH to promote well-trained young pilots for the German rescue service.
pilot training
During the approximately three-year training period, the flight students accompanied by mentors from ADAC Luftrettung gGmbH and prepared for work as a rescue helicopter pilot. In addition, practical elements specially tailored to the air rescue service are integrated into the training. On average, HAA graduates return home with 1,000 to 1,200 flight hours in their logbook – a good basis for starting a career.
application
After our program got off to a very successful start, we had to reduce the number of students in this program. Therefore, it is only possible to be accepted into the program if you are already a student of our flight school. With this step we want to make sure that you only apply if you want to become a pilot and if you see a job with the ADAC air rescue service as a bonus. Students begin the training with the Private Pilot License. During this training, the Hillsboro Aero Academy staff already evaluates whether a candidate is right for the program. If this is the case, a corresponding recommendation is made to the ADAC. After further tests and discussions with ADAC air rescue personnel, a decision will then be made as to who will be included in the program.
training
The first 12-15 months of the time in the USA consists of training as a commercial pilot and flight instructor. You can find more about the training in the Helicopter section.
You will then work for up to two years in the USA as a flight instructor or tour pilot.
Throughout your time in the US, you will work with an ADAC air rescue mentor to prepare you for air rescue work.
EASA license
The EASA license has also been part of the training in the USA since 2021. In the past, this could only be completed in Europe, but it can now also be done directly with us during the FAA training. This saves a lot of time and money in the end.
DLR test
The DLR test is an aptitude test for astronauts , pilots and air traffic controllers . It is carried out by the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Hamburg . The test is carried out on behalf of various aviation companies. This test is one of the requirements for being able to fly for the ADAC air rescue service.
For graduates of the training program, the costs for the DLR test are covered by ADAC Luftrettung. After a recommendation for employment by the DLR selection committee, you will be included in the ADAC pilot pool. You will be hired as soon as there are suitable positions in the company.
