ARE YOU READY FOR TAKE-OFF?

Pilot training

Hillsboro Aero Academy has been training pilots in the Northwestern United States since 1980. We train our pilots under FAA Part 141 and have the F1 visa for our students. With the F1 visa, you can work in the United States for up to two years after the completion of your flight training. The combination of our high-quality flight training and a work permit makes Hillsboro Aero Academy the ideal school for future professional pilots.

Most pilot students come to us to go through our complete Professional Pilot program. This program is designed to take less than 18 months. For students who already have flight experience, we are happy to create individual training plans.

PPL

Private Pilot

License

The Private Pilot License is the first step for a pilot on their way to becoming a professional pilot.
During this course, students learn to safely fly an airplane, navigate in airspace, and fly the airplane on solo flights without the flight instructor. Most students fly all private pilot training in a Cessna 152 or Cessna 172.

IFR

Instrumental-Flight-Rating

After completing the private pilot license, you must gain flight experience to meet FAA requirements for the commercial pilot license. Our students get part of these hours during their instrument rating. Here you learn to fly in bad weather and even through clouds. The IFR training is flown in our Cessna 172 with Garmin 430 or Garmin 650.

COM

Commercial Pilot Training

The professional pilot license allows a pilot to fly an aircraft for compensation or hire. During the training you build on your knowledge and skills from the private pilot license and learn the rules and regulations under which you can work as a professional pilot in the USA. During the professional pilot training, our students also fly twin-engine Piper Seminoles, in which we complete our multi-engine training.

CFI

Certified-Flight-Instructor

Most pilots start their careers as flight instructors. It is one of the few jobs that you can get with little flight experience.During your time as a CFI, you will deepen your skills and knowledge while teaching students. The job opportunities for flight instructors are very good and many of our graduates work for us before they move on to fly for air carriers or cargo operators worldwide.

LET YOUR DREAMS TAKE FLIGHT

FLIGHT TRAINING COST

Of course, the price plays an important role in the search for the right flight school.
Before choosing your flight school, you should look at several flight schools and compare exactly which school offers what in detail.
For example, most schools offer only an M1 visa instead of the F1 visa. That visa does not allow you to work in the USA after flight training. This will result in considerable additional costs for you in obtaining the necessary flight hours, which the seemingly inexpensive training can very soon turn into an expensive experience. Unfortunately HAA does not accept students, who transfer from other schools past the PPL certificate.

Our Professional Pilot Program (PPL, IFR, COM, CFI) costs around $ 68,000.

Why flight training in the US is better then in Europe

To be able to be successful as a pilot, you will need flight hours. Most jobs in Europe require at least 500 or even 1000 flight hours with almost no opportunities for low-hour pilots, who just finished their flight training. In the United States on the other hand, there are plenty of opportunities like flight instruction, tour companies, agriculture flying and even some cargo operations, that low hour pilots can take. Hillsboro Aero Academy offers the F-1 Visa which allows our graduates to work for up to two years after completing their training. During this period, pilots can fly up to 1500 total hours, which will improve their job chances in Europe significantly. It is however important to remember that you will need to convert your pilot license to the European EASA one to be able to work in Europe or the UK.

Why chose

Hillsboro Aero Academy?

According to a Boeing study the airline industry is expecting an unprecedented pilot shortage over the next 20 years. An additional 790 000 pilots will be needed to keep up with the worldwide demand for air travel. Thanks to our F1 visa with CPT and OPT, our graduates can get a head-start by working in the US for up to two years. During this time they can gain experience by working in flight schools, tour companies and freight operators

SAFETY

MATTERS!

Hillsboro Aero Academy is the first Part 141 flightschool worldwide, to receive the “International Standart for Business Aircraft Operations" (IS/BAO) accreditation. This accreditation shows our commitment to safety and our safety management system, that is used to educate pilots and improve safe aircraft operations.
